EXCERPT: "Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness’ Quick Response Team (QRT) is expanding its naloxone Leave-Behind Program with Louisville Metro EMS to place lifesaving doses directly into residents' hands after overdose responses.
Since the program began last October, QRT and EMS have provided 100 naloxone units to Metro EMS, with 50 units distributed in the last two months and another 50 expected this month.
The program aims to ensure immediate access to overdose reversal medication and to educate families on how to use it, so they can respond effectively to future emergencies.
By leaving naloxone behind and building trust between EMS and residents, the initiative supports care, dignity, and prevention in the community."
